Babbel - Review

Babbel is not only one of the best known international online language courses and the market leader, but also the winner of the trusted 2024 test. You can currently learn 14 languages with Babbel: English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Dutch, Portuguese, Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Russian, Polish, Turkish and Indonesian. Some courses - such as Indonesian or Russian - cover the most important basics, while in more common languages such as French and Spanish you can reach CEFR level B1, and in English even up to level C1.

What's great about Babbel is its simplicity and flexibility. It doesn't matter where you are, how much time you have, or which device you want to learn on; with the Babbel Language Learning Application you can design your language course exactly the way you want it. Individual lessons only take a few minutes and can therefore be taken at any time, even on the road. If you have more time, you can do several exercises at a time, in which you can practice new vocabulary, match pictures and translations, fill in gaps, etc.

Babbel uses the Pattern-Drill-Method, which allows you to learn new vocabulary in the same way every time. Babbel's learning concept has been developed by language teachers and scientists and aims to achieve fast learning results. Instead of burdening you with theoretical lessons and lengthy grammar exercises, the entertaining learning games are designed to allow you to have your first conversations in the target language in no time. The plan is that you use the language you have learned; not that you understand it from scratch and down to the last nuance. Instead, the new vocabulary is linked to images and sounds, so that you learn it quickly and keep it in your memory for a long time.

Babbel's online language course costs between 6 and 10 euros per month, depending on the term. Monthly subscriptions are more flexible but more expensive; annual subscriptions, on the other hand, are cheaper but must be paid in advance and are automatically renewed without cancellation. Great: If you log in to the browser, you can try out the first lessons of a language course free of charge; on mobile devices, however, you have access to a seven-day trial phase with all the course content.
